Internet nowadays can be accessible anywhere and by anyone including children. Parents have to be vigilant in watching over theirs when they access the internet because if they are just left on their own, they might become the victims of cybercrimes. Here are some rules that parent can give their children so that they’ll become safe when they are using the internet.
First, advise kids never to give out their passwords to anyone. This includes the people they met in social networks and even to their best friends. Passwords that they give out to people might be used by cybercriminals to access their personal stuff. Keeping the passwords to themselves will keep them safe.
Kids should ask permission or consult their parents before installing or downloading specific software in the computer. Most of the malicious software in the internet today are guised as legitimate software or even games so people will not think that it’s harmful. These malwares will then phish personal information such as credit card number, social security and other vital data.
Parents should be the first to know if their kids plan to “meet” someone they got to know in the internet. If the parents allow the “meet-up” to take place, it must be in a public place and their kids should have a chaperone. This is to ensure that their kids will not get hurt or will not be taken advantage of by the people they meet in person for the first time.
