Restricting Web Browsing with Firefox

Knowing how to regulate web browsing at home is essential to keep your children from accessing inappropriate web contents. And since the most used web browser today is Mozilla’s Firefox it is only necessary to provide the steps on how to control the websites that can be accessed through it. Here are the steps on restricting Web browsing with Firefox.

1 – Install security add-ons for Firefox
There are several security add-ons to choose from. Just remember to check the features they provide to choose the best one. Download this add-on then go to Tools and click add-ons. You will see list of add-ons that you can install on Firefox. Look for the name of the add-on in the list. Then follow the instructions the application provides to enable the security features.

2 – Set Security Settings
Go to Tools again and then Options. Then go to Security tab. There you can set the websites that should be allowed to install add-ons they required. You can also set the warning feature when a website tries to install an add-on. You can also set a master password. This will be requested by Firefox everytime it tried to retrieve saved information protected by the master password.

3 – Set Firefox to Never Remember History
Still under Options, go to Privacy tab and select Never Remember History on the Firefox Will tab. Once this is set Firefox will never save any browsing history when you close it. This includes cookies and any other data that can be used by phishers and hackers.

These are the three basic methods in restricting web browsing in Firefox. Do these things to ensure that when your children use the Web browser their access to inappropriate websites will be severely limited. Although it will not guarantee to block all such websites, at least the numbers are greatly reduced.
